Day Tour in Chiang Mai, Thailand

While travelling in Thailand you are recommended to visit the largest city in northern Thailand – Chiang Mai. It’s a city surrounded by green mountains and colourful hill tribes, that is a paradise for travellers, shoppers and adventure lovers. The city holds something special for every single traveler, with multiple interests. Chiang Mai is full of amazing attractions, whether it’s about visiting the local market, monuments, landscapes and much more. Here is a recommended agenda for a day tour in Chiang Mai. This will be definitely a memorable city roundup for you.

 

Doi Suthep

The day will be starting at Doi Suthep temple, one of the historically and spiritually significant temples in Thailand. The place has traces of Lanna culture that was originated in almost 700 years back. It’s not only mesmerizing to witness the architecture and craftsmanship, but it comes with the best of peacefulness feeling. To have a peaceful and cultural morning in Chiang Mai, this is the best spot to start with. In order to reach the top of mountain, where the golden temple is, you have to climb 309 stairs. The stairs are decorated by two long dragon statues from both sides. Alternatively, you may choose the enjoyable option of riding up on cable car.

Entrance fee to Doi Suthep forforeigners in only 30 Thai Baht per person. In the temple there is also a view point of Chiang Mai from the top of the mountain where you can shoot your best photos of Chiang Mai.

It is important to note that women must de dressed modest when it comes to Buddhist holy places, and Doi Suthep Temple is not an exception. Long pants and shirts with long sleeves are compulsory in order to enter the temple itself.

Inside the golden temple, visitors will have the chance to see the locals get blessing and red/white bracelet from the monks. Foreigners may sit on the floor inside the temple and may also approach the monk by bowing 3 times, while remaining seated. The monk would then splash holy water on your head, bless you and will tie a bracelet to your hand.

Bai Orchid-Butterfly Farm

The next stop comes on the way will be Bai Orchid-Butterfly Farm at Mae Rim, on road 1096 (In Thai: เส้นแม่ริม) approximately 20-30 minutes ride northern to Chiang Mai, on road 107. If you love nature and wants to experience the flowers and butterflies at their best, then this is a paradise for you. Here you can witness orchid flowers in multiple colors and many types of butterflies in the same place. Entrance fee is only 40 Thai Baht per person, and a memorable experience is assured.

In the butterfly farm you will have a chance to be close to these beautiful creatures. Some of them might even land on your hand to take a rest from their non-stop flower’s nectar feast, and in that case you can make a photo with them.

Siam Insect Zoo

The next amazing spot is Siam Insect Zoo. You must never heard of an insect zoo, but in Mae Rim, Road 1096, there is a place that can let you touch and hold a large number of insect’s species, some of them are poisonous! This is the place to test your real courage and a one time chance to fight your phobia of insects, at last. The entrance ticket costs 200 Thai Baht per person, and it surly worth it. The zoo can be titled as a centre for learning and exploring more of interesting insects like: butterfly caterpillars, huge tarantula spiders, huge cockroaches, black scorpions, lizards, Iguanas and more. The zoo is divided into two zones, the learning museum zone where you can witness the marvellous collection of stuffed insects. The second one is the live insects zone, here you will get the chance to meet touch, interact with living insects, and get to know them closely.
